What we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
Effective date: October 12, 2026
Jamsville LLC (“Jamsville”, “we”, “us”) runs jamsville.com, the Jamsville guitar app (Free, Pro and Creator) and Jamsville private guitar lessons. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
Jamsville LLC is responsible for your information (the “controller” under EU and UK law).
Server logs. Like any website, our web host receives your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, the time and the page that sent you, and keeps them in server logs. We use these to run and protect the site.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 (through Google Site Kit and Google Tag Manager) to understand how people use the website and the app: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are (country or city level), what device and browser they use, and how they found us. Inside the app it also records feature use, such as starting a practice session, finishing a quiz, creating a share link or going through the guided tour. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga and _ga_*) that last up to 400 days. We do not use Google Analytics to identify you by name.
Videos and embedded content. Some pages show videos from Vimeo or files from Google Drive. When those load, Vimeo or Google receive your IP address and browser information and may set their own cookies.
Fonts. Some pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google and shares your IP address with it.
Order attribution. Our store software (WooCommerce) sets short-lived sbjs_* cookies that note how you arrived at the site (for example, a search engine or a link). If you place an order, that source is saved with the order.
Security. Our host may show a short check to stop automated traffic.
We use these tools on jamsville.com to measure and show ads:
| Tool | Provider | What it does | Cookie |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Pixel | Meta Platforms | measures visits and purchases from our Facebook and Instagram ads and helps show our ads to people likely to be interested | _fbp, 90 days |
| Google AdSense | shows ads on our pages, which may be personalized | Google ad cookies | |
| Kliken | Kliken and Google | runs Google Shopping ads for our store | set by the provider |
These tools collect your browser and device information, the pages you visit and, for Meta, a browser ID. They do not receive your name, email or anything from your Jamsville account or lessons.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Under some US state laws, letting these tools collect data on our site can count as “sharing” for targeted advertising. You can limit it at any time:
When you use the app without signing in, everything below stays in your browser’s local storage on your device. We do not receive it.
It stays until you clear your browser’s data for jamsville.com. Signing out of an account does not clear it, so on a shared device you may want to clear site data.
Share links. When you share a progression, exercise or diagram, the musical settings are written into the link itself. Anyone with the link can see them.
The microphone is only used after you allow it in your browser. The app analyzes the sound in real time on your device to hear pitch and rhythm and to grade your playing. MIDI guitars work the same way. Your audio, recordings and the notes you play are never saved, uploaded or sent to us or anyone else. The app remembers only which microphone or MIDI device you picked.
In Creator, a private tool for our own video production, the app can pass the current musical state to a program running on the same computer. It never leaves that computer.
You can create a free account with an email and password, or sign in with Google or Patreon.
Email and password. We store your email, a securely hashed password, and a username and display name based on your email address. When you create an account from the app, we copy your lesson progress and learner profile (section 4) into your account.
Sign in with Google. Google tells us your Google account ID, email address, first name and whether your email is verified. We do not receive your Google password and we do not keep Google access tokens.
Sign in with Patreon. Patreon tells us your Patreon ID and whether you are a member. The Patreon login plugin we use keeps Patreon’s sign-in tokens with your account.
Staying signed in. We use WordPress sign-in cookies that keep you signed in for up to 60 days. If you add the app to your phone’s Home Screen, we also keep a “remember this device” token in your browser so you stay signed in. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it, it expires after 90 days, and signing out deletes all of them.
Synced progress. While you are signed in, your lesson progress and learner profile are saved to your account so they follow you across devices.
My Practice (Pro). If you save practice items, we store each item’s title (which you can type), the saved exercise or link, where it came from (for example a lesson or your teacher), and when you last reviewed or opened it. The app keeps a copy on your device for offline use.
Account records. To decide who has Pro, we keep a record linking your account to how you signed in and why you have access (a subscription, a Patreon membership, a private lesson enrollment or a gift), with a history of changes.
Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe, Stripe collects your card details and, where tax applies, your billing address. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers. We send Stripe your email and an internal account ID. Stripe tells us your customer and subscription IDs, plan, status, renewal date, trial end, cancellations and refunds, which we keep to give you access. If you buy before creating an account, we create one with the name and email you gave Stripe and email you a link to set your password.
Each person can use a free trial once, so we remember whether your account has had a subscription before. You can manage or cancel your subscription from your account page, which opens Stripe’s billing portal. Stripe’s privacy policy is at https://stripe.com/privacy.
If you bought a Jamsville course (such as GPS) through our older store, we keep your order details (name, email, billing address, what you bought and when) and your course enrollment and progress. You keep access to the course you bought. Payments for those orders were handled by a third-party payment processor; we do not store your card number.
When you take a lesson in the Jamsville app, the app records how the lesson went so we can make the lessons better: which steps you reached, finished or skipped, how long they took, whether a graded take passed and which skill it was scored on, and whether you replayed an instruction or a demonstration. It also notes the app version, whether you use Free, Pro or Creator, the type of device (for example phone or desktop) and whether you played with a microphone, a MIDI guitar or the screen. Grading happens on your device. No audio, recordings, notes you play, or anything you type is ever sent.
Free guides. When you request a free guide on our site, the form adds your name and email to Jamsville’s own mailing list, which we store on our own site. We ask you to confirm your email before we add you (double opt-in). We deliver the guide and our emails through Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES), our email delivery provider. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Service emails are part of using Jamsville, so they have no unsubscribe link: a welcome email with a summary of your first lesson when you create an account, links to set or reset your password, and replies to lesson inquiries. Stripe sends payment receipts.
Contacting us. If you email us, we keep your message and email address to reply.
Lesson inquiries. When you ask about lessons on our site, we collect your name, email, phone number, availability, and your answers about your playing, goals, location and how you heard about us. For a child’s lessons, a parent or guardian fills in the form with their own contact details and the child’s first name and experience. We use this to reply and arrange a consultation.
Enrolled students. If you take lessons, how we handle your information (including your signed agreement, payments through GoCardless or Stripe, scheduling, online lessons on Zoom, lesson recordings and your private Lesson Library) is described in our teaching agreement at https://jamsville.com/teaching-agreement/. Students also get Jamsville Pro through an account we create with their name and email.
Outreach. We sometimes email schools, churches and community groups about lessons using contact details they publish. Reply and we will stop.
If you arrive through a partner’s referral link, we set a jv_ref cookie holding only the partner’s code, for 30 days. If you then join through Patreon, we record that the partner referred you (your account, Patreon email and payment dates) so we can pay their commission. For our partners themselves, we keep their name, email and commission terms.

If you are in the EU, UK or Switzerland, we rely on these legal bases:
You can ask us to:
Email support@jamsville.com. We will answer within 30 days (45 days for California requests), may need to confirm it is you, and will not treat you differently for asking. Some records (for example payment records) must be kept for legal reasons; we will tell you if that applies. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
California and other US states. In the last 12 months we collected identifiers (name, email, phone, account and device IDs), commercial information (subscriptions and orders), internet activity (site and app use, lesson improvement data), approximate location, and education-related information (lesson progress), from you, your devices, Google, Patreon and Stripe, for the purposes in this policy. You have the rights above, plus the right to know what we collect and to opt out of “sharing” for targeted advertising (section 3 explains how). We do not use sensitive personal information to infer things about you.
Our Terms and Conditions require you to be 18 or older to use or register for the site. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Children can take private lessons when a parent or guardian enrolls them: the parent or guardian provides the information, and the teaching agreement applies. If you think a child has given us information without a parent, contact us and we will delete it.
We are based in the United States, and our providers store information in the United States and other countries. Where EU, UK or Swiss law applies, our providers use approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
We use HTTPS throughout the site, hash passwords and sign-in tokens, keep payment card details with Stripe, and limit who can access records. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password.
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date.
